I read Bob Burnett’s excellent and timely post yesterday over at HuffPo, entitled "Bush’s Day of Reckoning."  I recommend reading it in its entirety.  The topic is whether or not to proceed with criminal investigations of Bush, Cheney & their ilk over torture and any other violations of the Constitution.  Bob does point out that incompetence is not a crime and focuses on things like ordering torture or illegal spying on Americans, which are crimes.

I would not want to be the paper shredder in Dick Cheney’s office.

That poor device is going to be running 24/7 from now until January 20, 2009. It probably started when CNN declared Obama the winner and has been going non-stop since. That crooked and devious thief is going leave behind a remarkably thin paper trail. When he’s done ‘clearing out’, his office will look like Christmas morning in Who-ville after the Grinch cleaned them out. Just some hooks on the wall, a few wires and little piles of dust here and there.

Maverick used to mean finding a novel way to solve a problem. Now, it means ignoring the law, abandoning ethics and screwing everyone to get your way.

I have reached the point now, where if I ever hear someone use the word ‘maverick’ again, I may resort to uncontrolled sobbing or projectile vomiting.
